Rangers Valley Feedlot
SME for Agribusiness
“The switch to SME and the HandPunch has been well worthwhile. It makes timesheets and payroll so much easier.” Anabel Braham, Financial Controller, Rangers Valley Feedlot
“Staff kept losing and forgetting their swipe cards, and this cost us more time than necessary in manual entries and checking for inaccuracy.”
The Problem
Rangers Valley is the premier long fed beef operation in Australia. In 2001, management at Rangers Valley Feedlot realised that their old, swipe-card based time clock system was inefficient and antiquated, and was costing them money.
Rangers Valley wanted to abolish swipe cards, and streamline their payroll processes through a system that would automatically calculate staff hours worked from daily attendance readings.
”Staff kept losing and forgetting their swipe cards, and this cost us more time than necessary in manual entries and checking for inaccuracy, so when choosing our new system we really wanted a system that used handpunch technology,” said Anabel Braham, Financial Controller at Rangers Valley Feedlot.
“Our old system was cumbersome, and we had to manually transfer the attendance data for each staff member into Excel to make the necessary totals before we could use it in our payroll systems”
The Solution
Anabel travelled to Brisbane to research the various systems on the market. She evaluated a number of systems, but only Time & Access Systems could provide the cutting edge Biometric technology she desired, in conjunction with simple to use software, to automate the payroll process for their 35 staff.
The SME software and the biometric HandPunch terminal they installed in 2001 also enables Rangers Valley to expand to their planned level of 70 staff at any time in the future, while still using their existing frameworks.
Rangers Valley Feedlot now runs a fully automated payroll process, where each staff member registers their hand shape in the biometric reader to clock on and off. This overcomes the problems created by lost or forgotten swipe cards. At the end of each week, they download the data from the system, and enter it directly into their payroll system, Meridian.
“We must be saving in excess of $5,000 per year of management time alone!” said Anabel Braham.
“The switch to SME and the HandPunch has been well worthwhile. It makes timesheets and payroll so much easier. And the staff is very happy with it. They no longer have to worry about swipe cards. It is even a bit of a novelty to some to use HandPunch technology in this environment”
